Apple is extending totally free repair work eligibility for a number of older MacBook designs facing known screen issues.
Initially, Apple has extended the 13-inch MacBook Pro’ s Backlight Service Program by a year. The program provides complimentary repairs for select 2016, 2017, and 2018 MacBook Pros with backlight breakdowns. The program started Might 2019, and Apple extended the totally free repair work eligibility window to either 5 years since the very first retail sale, or 3 years given that the repair work program began– whichever is longer. This indicates customers now have till at least May 2022 to get their older MacBook Pro’s backlight replaced.
The other extension is to the Anti-Reflective Finish Repair Work Function for 12-inch MacBooks and MacBook Pros with Retina Displays (12-inch versions released in 2016 and 2017). This issue has been around for almost 9 years, however Apple started offering totally free repair work for affected customers back in 2015, and then extended coverage in 2017. Apple plans to continue offering complimentary repair work to U.S. customers according to an internal memo obtained and validated by MacRumors, but it will not be announcing the extension publicly.
If your older 13-inch MacBook Pro’s backlight is malfunctioning, or your 12-Inch MacBook or MacBook Pro’s anti-reflective finish is damaged, you can send a claim through Apple’s Support website to begin the repair process. From there you can take your broken MacBook to your regional Apple shop or licensed service provider, or mail it to Apple.
Note that all 12-inch MacBooks and MacBook Pros have to be sent by mail to Apple’s support center even if you take them to a store personally, so repair work for these designs will take longer. MacRumors estimates it might use up to a week to get your MacBook back after sending it in.
You can also ask for a refund for the expense of repairs if you’ve already paid to repair either of these issues. To qualify, your MacBook needs to be qualified for the suitable repair work program and you will need a receipt for the repairs.
